Things to know about 'cold sores' and causes and lipstick

I am sure you all have heard about cold sores, but many of you don’t really know what that is and how it can be treated. In this article I will try to give you the most information regarding ‘cold sores’ and causes and lipstick and other things that you should know about this condition.

The cold sores have several names, but they mean the same thing : herpes labialis or fever blister. These are painful lesions that in most of the cases can be found on lips, chin, nostrils or cheeks. These usually turn into yellow-crusted sores and they will go away in a couple of weeks.

The sad thing about this is that those people who get cold sores generally get outbreaks over and over again and you should also know that they are highly contagious. The cause of the cold sores is the virus called herpes simplex, usually type 1. There is no vaccine or cure for them at this time, but you can ease the pain caused by them, you can also speed up the healing and stop them from spreading.

You could also cover the cold sores and so you could live your life normally. There is a product called ‘liquid bandage’ that you can find at pharmacies and there are several brands that you can choose from. You should apply one layer to cover the cold sore and you should allow this layer to dry completely.

You may apply another layer for a full coverage. This way you will achieve a smooth surface and you will be able to apply normally the lipstick that you want. The bandage will also prevent further infection because it has antiseptic properties.

Once the bandage has dried you could apply with the help of a lip brush (that can be sterilized in boiling water) a lip color that is darker than the shade of the cold sore. In case you use the lipstick tube to apply the lipstick you might help the infection to spreads to other parts of your lips as well. It is important to sanitize the lip brush. It is also important to make sure that the bandage fully covers the cold sore because otherwise the lipstick might irritate it and it could become worse.

The lipstick color should be dark enough to hide the sore. To remove it you just have to wash it off and make sure that you dry it thoroughly. After you remove the bandage you might treat the sore with alcohol; it will burn but it will also speed up the healing. You could also use Neosporin gel to avoid scarring and to help the healing.

I hope that now you know a lot more about ‘cold sores’ and causes and lipstick and in case you happen to get infected you will know what to do to be able to live your life as you did befoe. This isn’t a severe issue, but you have to take care of yourself.
