Even if we tend to prefer showers, because they are quicker and healthier, baths in the tub have got their own benefits. It is true that for your skin is not very healthy to have long baths in hot water, but they are so relaxing that we can not stop from getting in the tub filled with warm water and fragrant foam. To counteract the negative effects of a long bath and make it more relaxing, you should know a few things.

For a healthy bath, you should not be satisfied with less than perfect. A relaxing bath must be addressed to all senses, so just sitting in hot water is not enough. Add candles for a romantic aspect, essential oils for a pleasant smell and good music. The best moment for a bath is before eating, when your stomach is empty. And you should not worry about felling sick because of the hot water that weakness your body and the fact that you haven’t eat. The sea salt you added to water stops the dizziness sensation that the hot bath gives you and relaxes your muscles.


A hot bath can dehydrate the body. It is not advisable to drink alcohol or coffee during the bath that enhances this effect. In a healthy bath the water should not be very hot, because otherwise it is going to dry the skin and give you a feeling of dizziness, especially if you have problems with blood pressure.

It would be ideal to take your body temperature during the bath. Warm water softens the skin, so during the bath time is ideal moment for peeling, or by using a particular cosmetic product or with a glove or a slightly abrasive sponge. It is also recommended to have a long bath in the tub after you have taken a shower for the process to be healthy because bacteria can be taken form the water.


To increase the effects on your skin it is advisable to add in the water essential oils. Essential oils have different properties, depending on the plant from which they were extracted. Keep in mind what you are going to do after the bath when you choose the oil, for it to be fitted for the occasion.

It is good to know that eucalyptus and peppermint are antiseptic, tonic and energizing, jasmine is stimulating and aphrodisiac, lavender is very relaxing, slightly sedative and also calming, orange is bringing calm and relaxation, both to body and mind, patchouli is a tonic, stimulant and antiseptic product, roses are aphrodisiac and relaxing, rosemary can help you get rid of mental fatigue, and ylang-ylang has a calming action on the nervous system. Essential oils are very concentrated and should not exaggerate their use. Six to seven drops in a tub is more than enough.
