Antique Manicure Set

To tell the truth at the beginning I didn’t really understand what it is all about antique manicure sets. What is so interesting about them? After doing some researches I think that I found out why do they fascinate some people? I have seen numerous pictures of such sets and I have to say that they have something special, somehow they represent the era they were produced and this way even these simple tools carry a part of history in them.

Those sets that are shown in catalogs or that can be found on the internet are very beautifully carved and they are very elegant. I have to admit that I don’t know anything about the tools that were used in the past for manicuring purposes, but the ones that I saw seemed to be really special, I guess that is why some people get so interested in them that they start collecting set and they are willing to pay big sums of money to get them.

Among the sets that I found that are for sale at the moment is a Jeweled Celluloid Manicure Set in Original Leather Portrait Pouch. The things that grabbed my attention about this set are the details that the tools have. The set has several tools and most of them are decorated with little blue gems.

Another set that seemed to be interesting is a Pretty Turquoise Enamel Guilloche Sterling Silver Manicure Set in Original Leatherette Case. I really like the color the tools have and I think it is due to the fact that it is rather unusual and these days people aren’t interested in these things enough to create such unique tools (at least not that I know of).

Among the antique manicure sets I found is a Victorian Mother – of – Pearl Carved Manicure Set in Original Box. The interesting characteristic of this set (as you might have already observed) is that the handles and some of the tools are carved. The set has 5 pieces and according to the description it dates back to the 1800’s. I think that it is amazing that something from that time can be purchased today.

I have found several Sterling Silver Manicure Sets. In this case well the decoration on the tools I very detailed and this fact makes the tools special. Although I know that silver was used to make a lot of items, it seems interesting to me that manicure tools were made of precious metals.

The last set that I am going to write about is a Victorian Velvet Cased Manicure Set. I think that it has a beautiful case, coated with yellow velvet. According to the description a scissor is missing and it has a tool that is not original, but the tools are supposed to be carved of bones or even ivory. True or not, I think that the work done with the tools is wonderful and I think that it’s a shame that today such sets are not created.
