Base Of The Fingernail

A fingernail is something one can find at all living creatures. One will see that they are replaced by claws, in some cases. But they have the same role of protection. Anyhow, not all have the same structure. Therefore, a human’s fingernails are made out of tough protein called keratin. This is the same protein that the animal’s hooves and horns are made of.

A human’s fingernail is made of various parts. The matrix is a part of the nail that represents the tissue upon which the nail rests, it is the actual base of the fingernail that extends all the way up to the nail root and contains as well the nerves, the lymph and the blood vessels.

The blood vessels are those that make the connection between the actual organism and the fingernail plate. That is what gives the natural pinkish color of the fingernails. The matrix is the root of the nail from which the actual nail plate grows, it helps the nail plate stay healthy and provides it with the needing nutrients.

The lunula represents the visible part of the fingernail matrix and it can be found at the base of the fingernail. It looks like a whitish half moon and it is something that everyone has to have in the case one has healthy fingernails. If one does not observe it in the little finger, there is no problem whatsoever, as the little finger has a too small nail plate to be able to have this white half moon on it as well.

What one actually sees is the nail plate. It is made out of keratin and it is actually composed of several layers of dead flattened cells. The shape the fingernail plate grows is, is given by the form of the underlying bone.  Related to the nail plate, there is the free margin, the eponychium, the peryonix, the nail wall, the lateral margin, the nail groove and the paronychium. These all are components of the nail. Anyhow, each one of these has its role and if anything happens to one, the fingernail plate will have to suffer from it.

Apart from the protective role the fingernail plate has, it has developed a role of style and adding a plus to one’s personality. The growth of the nail has an average speed of 3 mm per month, which makes it possible for a fingernail to fully grow in a time of three to six months. This is available for the fingernails, while for the toe nails, a totally time to fully row will take about 12 to 18 months.  There are various factors that the fingernails growth depends on, such as age, gender, season, exercise level, diet and as well hereditary factors. There are as well internal factors, but these cannot be seized but under medical supervision.

Maintaining healthy fingernails is an issue that depends upon everyone. To have healthy fingernails one can try and have the manicure properly done once a week, if the time and the patience is not on your side, one can go to a salon for this thing. One should as well cease using a hundred percentage of the time nail polish, and leave the nails rest between the polishes, at least two to three days. The hand and nail cream is useful and needy at all costs. May it be summer or winter, it cannot lack from one’s fingernails manicure set. The nail file should always be there with you in the purse in case anything happens while you are out and you need to make your fingernail straight. One should as well use some cuticles cream as they may get dry from too much chemicals and nail polish and nail polish remover.

As fingernails express ones individuality as well, one should not let them just be, as one should offer them appropriate care just like to every part of one’s body.
