Some more serious causes is the diet. One that is not keeping a well balanced diet for the organism, he will not keep one for the fingernails either. As they are strictly fed by what you actually provide them with, the diet should be full of proteins and of vitamins, fatty acids, light meat, vegetables, fruits etc. but, one should know that problems and fingernails ridges causes go deeper than this and they can go all the way as some circulatory or respiratory issues.

While these are not so serious problems to be worried about, the causes that lead to horizontal fingernail ridges are far more serious, and one should consult a specialist from the very day one observes the fingernail ridges on the fingernail plate. These can be caused by diseases that go all way to the cancer concern. They as well may appear as a heart problem, as a liver or kidney disease and as a result of the chemotherapy done.

Once the disease is treated the fingernails ridges will disappear for good, in the case of the horizontal fingernail ridges. While in the case of vertical fingernails ridges, after some three to six months treatment, some results should be seen.
