An old belief says that once lips are the main characteristic of a person. In other words, as a person has its lips-shape of them- so is the person. One with thin lips is a mean person, one with voluminous lips has sex-appeal, while flesh-like lips are more attractive. Is it so? Because unfortunately, some people born with some imperfection and it is not their fault after all. Those with a cleft lip are a strong example. And no one can judge them for being in a certain category.

Cleft lip is an imperfection, an obvious one. And it not appears because of something they have done. They have this flaw since birth. This is a severe situation. It affects ones self esteem. But fortunately it can be repaired with a surgical operation.

The drawback of the situation is that once a child is born with cleft lip it can not be operated until at least a year. This is because the risks of the operation are higher. Also, in some cases the little kid may need to stay in the incubator for a while and so, the operation will be postponed until the state of health is good.

And still after the operation the child can not get rid off completely of the cleft lip. It will remain a scar and an unusual shape of the lip. There are cases when the result of the operation leads to a little scar and nothing more but it depends on the gravity of the situation. On the one hand, the doctor is responsible for a successful operation; experience in plastic surgery has a word to say. On the other hand, it depends on how big and deep is the cleft lip.

Cleft lip involves therapy, regular visits to a psychologist. It is extremely necessary as for the parents, as for the child. This procedure helps them accept the situation as it is and also, it helps them raise the self esteem. One can not know the difficulty such people pass through so that when someone sees a person with cleft lip, even after the operation there is an obvious big scar. And they tend to stare, making that person feel different and not accepted in the society.

Furthermore, cleft lips leads to other issues. The impossibility to speak fluently and correct is the main one. Imagine how hard is for those people in this situation. This is why there is a law, supportive for them. Besides the life annuity such people have discounts to several centers regarding non governmental associations that help them integrate in the society.

To put it in a nutshell, cleft lip can harm seriously ones life. Unfortunate, there is nothing one can do about this, as few of children are diagnosed with cleft lip before they get born.
