Diseases In Fingernails

Nail discoloration and changes in theirs growth may show various health problems, while white spots and vertical ridges are usually harmless. For example, white fingernails indicate that you have anemia or kidney problems. Pitted brown spots or splits fingernail tips bring psoriasis in discussion. Healthy nails are usually smooth and consistent in color, pink to dark pink, which show a rich blood supply.
Nails are just another type of skin, protecting the nerve rich fingers. They are made up of protein, keratin and sulfur, which can be found also in your hair and skin. They grow about .05 to 1.2 millimeters a week. Often nutritional problems led to nail changes. Look for medical advices if you find out that your fingernails are different than yesterday.Don’t forget: diseases are indicated by your fingernails. If the color of the fingernails changes from pink to white, yellow, purple, green or dark red it can be the sign of serious infections or injuries.

White fingernails with pink near the tops are a sign of cirrhosis and when the entire nail it could be the sign of liver disorders or anemia.
Thick nails might indicate blood circulation dysfunctions.
If your nails turned yellow it can mean that you may have problems with your liver or the lymphatic system, diabetes or respiratory disorders.
Very deep blue nail beds can indicate pulmonary obstruction or emphysema.
Dark, flat and/or thin nails show that you have lack of vitamin B(12).

Brittle nails are a sign of iron deficiency and thyroid problems. This problem can also be result of overexposure to water and chemical solvents. Wear gloves when doing household cleaning.
Nails that are very bendable may indicate rheumatoid arthritis.
Darkened cells and linear depressions in the nails may be caused by illness, trauma, malnutrition or metabolic condition or chemotherapy. It is called Beau’s Lines and is the result of an interruption in the protein formation of the nail plate.
Nails that crack, peel and chip easily mean you need more protein and minerals in your diet.
You have real problems with your thyroid if your nails are brittle and soft, or if they separate from the nail bed and look like a bumpy road. Ridges mean infection, or, again, thyroid disorder.
