Fingernail Fungus Treatment

Fungal nail infections are caused by fungi that infect the nail. What causes fungal nails? - The fungi that cause onychomycosis are usually dermatophytes (Tricophyton rubrum, mentagrophytes var Tricophyton interdigital), more rarely of yeast (Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis) or exceptionally molds (Acremonium strictum, Fusarium oxysporum, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, Aspergillus sp and Scytallidium dimidiatum).

How is it possible to catch a fungal nail infection? - The dermatophytes contaminate walking barefoot on public land (pool, sauna, changing rooms of gyms, dance halls, the tatami dojo, theater scenes, doctors' offices ...). Sick patients lay fragments of infected skin on the ground which can in turn transmit the disease.


Yeasts thrive under the nails of patients too often in contact with moisture (excessive hand washing, food professionals, health professionals, care workers ...). In fact, in these cases, infection is the consequence of harmful habits whose interruption is crucial to healing.  Molds are caught by walking barefoot on contaminated soil.

What are the subjects at risk for fungal nail infections?  Fungal nails affects about one in ten adults are more often affected than children. The risk factors are:
Family predisposition
• Some doctors believe that there is a genetic predisposition.

Diseases and promoting drug taken:
• Diseases (AIDS, diabetes, Cushing's syndrome ...) or medications (immunosuppressive therapy, chemotherapy treatments to prevent transplant rejection, cortisone ...) that promote infections.
• disorders of blood circulation (varicose veins in the legs, Raynaud's phenomenon, which gives the pale winter ends).
• Some genetic diseases such as trisomy 21.
• Diseases of the skin causing a separation or thickening of the nail (psoriasis, lichen).
• The foot problems that cause the nails detached and / or thickened.
• Abnormal position of the toes (toes that overlap, big toes recovering or "rebiquent" ...)
• "Loved" and bruises caused by sports activities or steps with ill-fitting footwear.

Factors related to lifestyle, occupation and environment
• Moisture, excessive sweating and continuous wear occlusive footwear. Occupations where the use of safety shoes or sport is required are high risk for fungal infections of the feet.Occupations where contact with water and / or foods promote fungal hands.
• Walking barefoot on public land, especially during sports activities or leisure

Factors associated with age
• The frequency of fungal nail infections increases with age, due to the slower rate of growth of the nail, but also because of impaired blood circulation.

What are the symptoms of fungal nail infections? - Mycoses caused by dermatophytes (this is by far the most frequent). Initially, these fungi affect toenails. The fungus first infects the skin between the toes. It forms a cut that does not heal.The crack of the seat skin most often between the fourth and fifth toes, sometimes between the third and fourth. This break often precedes by several months or years contamination of the nails, which often begins at the corner of the nail of a big toe. Initially, the contamination of the nail may result in the following symptoms:

• Seating nail off, thick, yellowish-white. Scraping under the nail is removed, a white powder and contagious. Sometimes there is a yellowish brown streak that forms a line or rocket on the nail.
• White spots.
