Fingernails are made out of a protein that is called keratin. The keratin makes the nails grow from the area at the base of the nail under your cuticle. As new cells grow, the old cells are pushed away and leave space for the new ones. They use the same growing system like the hair does, they need to be well taken care, in order to stay and look healthy. They have a protective role as well as a beauty role.
Fingernails are however, hard to look after, and time consuming. However, there is nothing better than to consume a couple of hours per week to look after your fingernails, and in the end see that your fingernails health is intact and you can easily burst with them.

How do healthy fingernails look like? Well healthy nails are smooth, without any ridges and grooves. They have the same color all over the nail, which is pinkish one, are free of any spots and discoloration.
To protect your fingernails and make them look at their best one has at first to be very careful at their eating diet, one has to eat a diet full of proteins and one that will allow fingernails to intake all their vitamins and nutrients that they need. They need vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin B12, vitamin E and also proteins and fatty things, that can be taken from ocean fish.
One has to buff their nails once a month, this way one will take every thing that has put and covered your nails, one will not have to buff the nails very hard, as they will be left with some layers off, that is why this should be done just once a month and not very hard.
Another tip is to trim and file your fingernails once a week and d this with the entire manicure program, like hold your hands in warm water, then push your cuticles aside with a wooden cuticles stick, and then cut your fingernails at the desired length and file them to look nice. You should find the perfect fingernails clippers for your nails and also the perfect file. Some fingernails need other file than others.

One can also avoid some external factors, like using too much acetone, too much nail polish, like gardening without protection, having your hands around chemical products all the time etc.
If these are some things that depend upon us to have good looking and healthy fingernails, there are other, internal things, that have bad effect on your fingernail health. These are problems of your liver, your heart, kidney, thyroid, like the aging process, that does not depend on us and also some are very serious problems, like in the melanoma case. Some people that observe black spots on the fingernails are likely to have a melanoma problem.
That is why, if observing any nuance in your fingernail health, one should go and check it up with a specialist.
