Fingernail Pitting
Fingernails grow at an average rate of 3 millimeters a month and are made of a tough protein called “keratin”. They require 3 to 6 months to grow again completely because the actual growth rate depends upon age, gender, season, diet or even hereditary factors. But there are several factors that cause Fingernail Pitting because nails can dry out just like the skin. Fingernails can also break, peel or be infected.
Fingernails Pitting are small depressions in the nail surface which are common in people with psoriasis. Psoriasis, the main cause of Fingernail Pitting, is a chronic, non-contagious disease of the immune system which affects the skin. Nails pitting also result from nail injuries. Pitting causes one’s nails to crumble and it can be also associated with conditions that can damage nail’s cuticle, such as chronic dermatitis of the fingers. Pitting Fingernails are often accompanied by crumbling of the nail. The nail can become loose and sometimes fall off.
Fingernail problems can be the cause of a bad nutrition, calcium being very important for healthy nails. Calcium can be found in green vegetables, dairy products, and sesame products or even in daily supplements. Vitamins are also vital for healthy fingernails. One of the vitamins needed is vitamin B which strengthens the nails and vitamin B12 which ensures nail growth and a healthy coloring while vitamin C helps prevent hang nails and swelling of nail tissue. Pitting Fingernails can be prevented if introducing calcium and vitamins in your diet.
Another way to assure healthy nails is to eat a well balanced diet with plenty of protein as well as fresh fruits and vegetables along with consuming minimum 2 litters of water daily Moreover, it is easier to prevent than to treat something so in order to avoid Fingernail Pitting or other problems of the fingernails which will attract inevitably an unstable health one must be alert when using dirty hands in contact with his eyes or any other part of his body, must use his own manicure set and if his fingernails look out of the ordinary than he should immediately go to a doctor and to take a treatment.
To conclude, the reason why Fingernails are Pitting is for sure a sign of disease, most likely psoriasis or a chronic dermatitis, so in order to avoid spreading the disease in the whole body we must take action and go see a doctor. There are many treatments that can cure us we only have to take the advice and the prescription of a specialist because if your nails look other than normal, this is a sign that there is something happening within your body and there is nothing more important in life than to be healthy.
