Fingernail Separation

Fingernails are a dead part of our body. However, they have a bit of life in them as they have to grow from somewhere. Their growth begins from the matrix. The matrix is the hidden part that pushes the fingernail to grow. It is a more living part of the nail as it is the one that is connected to the blood vessels and from which the fingernails get their vitamins.

Any change that one sees in the fingernails color, shape, thickness, thinning, brittleness, splitting, grooves is a sign of alarm. You may be dealing with some external factors that have attacked your fingernail or even with some more serious, internal ones. As it is a dead tissue, the fingernail cannot find the strength to fight the different bacteria and infection may get to it. Therefore, one should treat it as soon as it is observed.

Some fingernail diseases can cause fingernail separation. Specialists believe that there are various causes that can cause the fingernail separation; there is the trauma, caused by a hit you suffered on the nail, the local injury, inflammation of the fingernail, some skin disorders, the dryness of the fingernail, etc. There are things you can do to prevent fingernail injury, like paying very good attention to how you handle things and protect your fingernails; you can prevent your fingernails inflammation by not keeping them in a moisturized environment and protecting them with a pair of gloves, if so; you can also keep them apart from chemicals, as they affect you nails very quickly and eventually lead to their separation and to maintain the necessary oil in your fingernails, one should always, after washing the hands, use  a moisturizing cream for hands and nails and should from time to time, apply an oil cuticle, to hydrate the cuticles. Following these steps will enable you to have beautiful fingernails.

Anyhow, the fingernail separation can also be caused by the ridges in your fingernails, which as you get older become more preeminent. The ridges can be vertical ridges, which are mostly seen as a result of getting older and horizontal ones that announce a serious disease. Being treated from the beginning, they will not have a disastrous effect on your fingernails.  Fingernail separation is characterized by the separation of the nail plate from the nail bed. Sometimes, this hurts, as the separation allows bacteria to get into that place formed and get infected. As a bacterium gets there, the fingernail is doomed and it will without any doubt fall apart, eventually.  If you are afraid of going to the doctor and having your fingernail removed, you may stay for a long time with bacteria under the fingernail and it may get ugly and serious. After the fingernail is totally off, it will take around three to six months to completely regrow. Anyhow, the growth depends on the age, the younger you are the faster it grows back on, and the older you are the slower the process of growing is.
