Grooved Fingernails

Fingernails are not as dead as one may think. They are actually some living organism in our body. Fingernails are not only made from the actually part that one can see, as that is just the nail plate, a fingernail is far more complex than just the nail plate concerns.

Due to this thing, everything that happens in our body has side effects on our fingernails, just like in our hair, skin etc.  As far as a connection exists there is no possibility for one to cut that connection. Due to this fact, fingernails may suffer a lot of disorders throughout their lives. While some of the disorders that the fingernails may suffer are  able to be cured and eventually disappear, some of them are deeper and there are likely chances to get rid of them and not find yourself with the actual fingernail plate fell off.

Grooved fingernails is one of these cases. How come the grooved fingernails begin taking life on one’s nail plate? The reasons for this vary, but one must know, that grooved fingernails are hard to get rid of. Grooves in fingernails are of two types, the vertical and the horizontal ones. While the vertical ones, are nota s serious as one may think, the horizontal ones are more serious.

That is because the vertical ones have at their root some external causes most of the times, and eventually when the nail grow, it disappears if the external cause is treated. In comparison to these, the horizontal ones, have most of the times internal causes that can not be treated but under direct supervision of the doctor.

To be able to deal with this fingernail disorder, one must first and foremost discover the cause. Once the cause is discovered, the treatment can start. One cannot leave the fingernails just like this without doing anything, as something worse might happen to them.

Some o the most serious fingernail grooves are known under Beau’s lines. They run from one side of the fingernail plate to the other. They are horizontal and most of the times the causes of their appearance are hypocalcaemia, a skin disease. But there can also be caused by an illness of the body, such as diabetes, psoriasis, certain drugs, and even malnutrition. If treated one can easily get rid of them.

Muerckhe lines are white lines that go along the fingernail plate, they are white in color and they are caused by a vascular abnormality of the nail bed, but also by liver disease, kifney or even low albumin levels.



The next lines in order are the Mee’s lines. They are characterized by white horizontal lines that are most of the times, a  result of systemic illness or even arsenic poisoning. They move higher as the nail grows and the nail bed is not affected by them.

While these are the horizontal fingernail grooves one may find himself dealing with, tehera re as well the vertical ones. The vertical lines appear most of the times as a result of the aging process. Process against which one has nothing to do. But they can As well appear as a result of too much dryness of the nail plate, of using too much nail polish, too many chemicals around your fingernails, and as well too wet environmental living for your fingernails.

Not taken proper care of, in case some of these disorders may appear, the fingernail could fall off. Even though a fingernails usually grow, totally in between there to six months, one will see how difficult and painful is to get used with no fingernails, until it eventually grows back on.
