I think that the most traditional hairstyle for African American women is the braided hairstyle. We all know that the tribes living in Africa braided their hair to send messages to those around them. You might not know this, but through braids a lot of things could be said: whether a person is married or not, whether a man is a good warrior and to which tribe the person on question belonged to. Naturally in our days braids have lost this purpose but even so more and more elaborate braided hairstyles are being created.
