In every people’s life it comes a time when he or she asks the following question: How do I get lipstick out of a shirt? It doesn’t really matter how it got there, the important thing is that you have to get rid of it. More sarcastic people say that the best way to treat a stain is to prevent it. Well, if you really would like to know what to do in such a situation then this article might be useful.

Our first reaction would be to try to rub the stain. The truth is that this is a very stupid thing to do because by rubbing the only thing that you will achieve is that the stain will spread and set. Before you do anything, check the label of the shirt and see what it is made of and what the substances that can be used on it are. If it is made of a more special fabric then I advise you to take it to a professional cleaner. In any other situation you could follow my tips.

The first thing to know about lipstick is that it is oily based, so you need something that is solvent based. Any water based solution or wet spotter will spread and set the stain. There are several methods that are guaranteed to give you the wanted results. One of them that I recommend is the method involving alcohol. I know that it sounds quite interesting, but hear me out. If you intend to use alcohol take a piece of clean and preferably white cloth and moisten it with alcohol. Then blot the lipstick stain and you will see that it begins to disappear right in front of your eyes.

There are other solutions as well, like the one involving dishwashing detergent. If you come to think of it, it is very logical, although it sound kind of funny. What is that thing that was designed to fight grease and so oily substances as well? Dishwashing detergent. In this case dab a little dishwashing detergent on the stain and let it set for a while, then using a clean piece of cloth, start working on the stain from the edges inward.

The last method that I will tell you about is the one using ammonia. This sounds interesting as well, right? If you don’t really have experience in this field, I tell you that ammonia is used for cleaning purposes as well and it can be found in almost any household. If you don’t have it at home, you can get some at the nearest shop and it doesn’t cost much. In this case try to blot of as much of the stain as possible using plain water. After this moisten a cotton swab with the ammonia and dab the stain. Once it starts to disappear, wash the shirt in warm water. It is best to use dishwashing detergent when washing. I hope that I answered the question ‘How do I get lipstick out of a shirt?’.
