An interesting aspect is that birds fear deep water. So the water should not be deeper than 1-2 inches. A fairly rough surface should be provided at the bottom of the bird bath. -          garbage can lids – to prevent overturning set the lid in a shallow depression, then fill it with water, stones and rocks, partially

-          logs – are  very natural

-          clay pot saucers – are ideal bird baths and can be placed on top of the clay pot or beneath a large plant

-          pie plate – on top of a hanging basket set a deep-dish pie plate, to make a hanging bird bath
