In summer days , a fun way of cooling off is being sprayed by a water hose or running under a sprinkler. The summer is enjoyable and tolerable. And the same treat can be offered to the birds in your yard by creating a bird bath. You will make your yard more attractive by installing a simple bird bath while also being able to enjoy the pleasure of seeing many birds splashing and playing in the cool pool of water. This is not an expensive project. Birds don’t care how money have been spent , they just love to play with water.





An interesting aspect is that birds fear deep water. So the water should not be deeper than 1-2 inches. A fairly rough surface should be provided at the bottom of the bird bath. When they have a solid footing birds feel more comfortable. The bird bath should be placed in an open area, such as the garden. Birds like to keep an eye out for danger so they prefer to have a clear view of the surrounding area.

Even during winter you can enjoy the birds if you constantly change the water in your bird bath and take care not to be frozen. And you will see different kinds of birds because there are different species during summer. Your bird friends will provide pleasure and beauty for you.

For use as a bird bath are suitable a variety of containers:

-          garbage can lids – to prevent overturning set the lid in a shallow depression, then fill it with water, stones and rocks, partially

-          logs – are  very natural

-          clay pot saucers – are ideal bird baths and can be placed on top of the clay pot or beneath a large plant

-          pie plate – on top of a hanging basket set a deep-dish pie plate, to make a hanging bird bath

-          height – bird baths may be or hung from a branch, on a raised pedestal or placed on the ground

-          dripping water – quickly attract birds. A water drip can be made easily although some bird baths have fountains.

-          care – at all times the bird bath should have fresh, clean water. Important for attracting birds is a reliable source of water. Every couple of days dump the water out and refill it. If algae had grown, remove it with a brush. To control algae never use any chemicals.

Be patient, it will take a while for the birds to come to your new bird bath but when they do, will make the surrounding feel  like heaven.
