Never heard about ‘Lipstick Jungle’? I can’t believe it! It is one of the most well-known TV dramas of the past few years. And even so, we have to face the fact that ‘Lipstick Jungle’ is cancelled.

The show premiered on February 7, 2008 and ever since it has attracted more and more fans. The storyline is based on the best-selling novel written by Candace Bushnell with the same title. The story presents the busy lives of three successful women living in New York trying to find the balance between their career and their personal lives, while wishing to help each other with the best advices they can give.

The three stars of the series Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price hung on to the hope that the drama will not be canceled but at some point they had to face the truth: NBC canceled the show.

After rumors started to circulate Brooke Shields claimed that the show will continue. She vehemently denied these rumors and said that the project would last. Sadly she was proven wrong.  Some say that the show initially started in order to replace the so successful ‘Sex and the City’. The ‘replacement’ lasted for only two seasons. Shields told E! magazine that "It was going to stay and we just were officially told it's finally not coming back". This proves that even the stars of the show were caught off guard by the executives’ decision. She also claimed that the last three years while they were working on the series were great.

Regarding the cancelation there were many complications and probably misunderstandings. At one point the show was said to be canceled, but the stars claimed that these rumors are false, and the show is still on. At this point the fans were totally puzzled, not knowing what to believe. I think there is a slight chance that not even those working on the drama knew what was going on. The cancellation might have come as a surprise even to the crew. I think that it would have been a great marketing strategy to make everybody believe that the show was about to be canceled and to make a glorious come-back. Sadly this wasn’t what the directors had in mind. It is said that the decision for the show to be cancelled was caused by the low ratings it got, so NBC has chosen not to order any more episodes.

At this point we might say that Brooke Shields, just like the rest of the cast is looking for a new job. Since the average number of people who watched the show was about five million (in the US), we can imagine that at this moment there are five million people out in the US only, who are sad because ‘Lipstick Jungle’ got cancelled. I think there will always be a need for such TV dramas that show the life of successful women who struggle to remain successful. These stories in a way motivate the average people that they can achieve their goals, they just have to fight for them.
