Since lipstick has been around (and I must say that it was a rather long period of time) there was always the possibility for it to stain our clothes. In the case of the ladies there are many possibilities to get a stain, for example if our lips accidentally touches our clothing or someone else’s, or if the lipstick is dropped and it falls on our clothing. Men also can get their clothes stained, but in this case everything is the other way round. It is quite unlikely for a man to stain his own clothes with lipstick.

It doesn’t really matter what happens, the important thing is to get the stain out. Those who think themselves wise say that the safest way to treat stains is to prevent them. There is only one thing I have ask those who say this: Nothing of this sort has ever happened to you?

My article will be useful for those who must treat the stains in another way. I know some methods regarding lipstick stain removal from clothing that must work. First of all we have to check the label of the clothing to be sure that by using any of these methods we won’t ruin the fabric. If the material is very delicate then the best thing we can do is to take it to a professional cleaner. Otherwise we could try one of these solutions.

We must remember not to rub the stain because all we achieve with that is that the stain will spread. The first method I recommend is to use alcohol. Moisten a clean and preferably white cloth with alcohol and simply blot the stain with it, which should disappear.

Another method involves using dishwashing detergent. Most of these detergents were made do fight, to dissolve grease, so they should work with lipstick stains as well. Dab a little dishwashing detergent on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Then start working on the stain form the edges inward.

If none of these methods seems to be appealing, you might want to try to remove the stain using ammonia. This substance can be found in almost any household because it is used for cleaning purposes.  If you don’t have any at home, you can find it at almost any grocery store and it is quite cheap. If using this method you should try blotting off as much of the stain as possible, using water. Then moisture a cotton swab with ammonia and dab the stain. When the stain starts to disappear, wash the clothing by hand with warm water, using dishwashing detergent.

The fourth method might be the oldest trick in the book. You might have heard about this one. This consists of spraying hairspray on the stain and letting it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then with a clean cloth moisturized with water, simply wipe the stain away. If it doesn’t work try again, but this time use dishwashing detergent.

I really hope that you will find these methods for lipstick stain removal from clothing useful and you will get rid of the stain.
