Longest Fingernails

In our times the lack of physical work in most women’s lives makes it possible for them to have long fingernails. For a period of time it is natural, normal, but which is that point when people begin to wonder how does the person in question manage to do everyday things with such long fingernails?

This question got me puzzled as well, so I did a little research and I find it amazing what some people are capable of. Can you even imagine living with 1 meter long fingernails? Some can. But others go even further.

The woman with the longest fingernails is told to be the Lee Redmond, who lives in Salt Lake City, USA. She did not cut her nails since 1979. One can only make a wild guess of how long her nails could be, but in my opinion only few would get near the truth, because it is almost unimaginable. On 23 February 2008 her nails were 8.65 m long.  Here is an image of her, for those who can’t even imagine such a sight.

Sha says that all this time her nails were always carefully manicured, and I can only imagine how careful her manicurist had to be. If you come to think of it, she could use a bottle of nail polish maximum two times. Of course there are some positive aspects as well: she couldn’t get bored wearing the same color.

Sadly all good things have to come to an end, she was involved in a car crash. She was ejected from the seat of an SUV. She was lucky to be alive and she knew this, but still she was devastated by the loss of her long fingernails. She also said that it was the most dramatic event of her life. She was 68 years old and said, that she will not try again to grow her fingernails, because it took her 30 years the first time.

At one point she even turned down 60000 pounds offered by a TV post to clip her nails.

When her husband got sick (he has Alzheimer’s), she was thinking about clipping her nails, so they wouldn’t bother her taking care of her husband. Later she changed her mind and she claimed that the nail do not bother her at all in her daily life. Once a reporter asked her the question some many have been thinking about: how does she go to the bathroom? Her answer was very logical :’Very carefully’. This shows that she not only has the longest nails in history, but also has a sense of humor.

She appeared in the “Guinness Book of World Records” and “Ripley’s Believe It or Not.”

Like every celebrity, she was famous only when she had something to make her special, but since the car crash we didn’t hear anything from her or about her. I guess she is living her normal life now, the way it was before her nails got her all that attention.
