In the 80s or so, trends were promoting different designs than now. There was the hippie style for a period, a way to rebel and feel free expressed through clothing. Accessories were also very popular, but at men they were not existent. For many years there was the idea that if you wear an earring you are gay, mostly because those who started this trend were gay. Stud earrings are usually with crystals because bling and ice is very popular nowadays, and small hoop earrings can be adorned with crystals or can be made of very precious material such as silver, gold or titanium. Usually men who choose to wear earrings, have to do it in style , so, they prefer the best. Also, celebrities have made this trend rise and be very popular. Many singers or actors, especially black hip hop singers choose to wear crystal or diamond jewelries, that look glamorous and shinny very much. This style has cached the public and so, nowadays, we see many boys and men also, who wear stud crystal earrings.

This is a sign of fortune and style. They say that a man's jewelries diminish in size and become more discrete as they grow older.
