Men's French Manicure

Did you ever think about men’s French manicure? I’m asking my female readers, how would you like to meet a guy in a club, dance with him, go out with him to get some air and then realize that he has French manicure? It is possible that I am a little conservative, but I would find it at least awkward. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that men shouldn’t get manicures.

It is nice to see that some men are careful about how they look, but from my point of view, French manicure is already too much. In our times manicure or men and polish for men are more popular than they have ever been before. Nevertheless, this wasn’t the only period when men are conscious of how they look. During the eighteenth century the French royalty had courtier, who got their nails done. At that time it was considered to be lower class to have rough hands with ragged nails, so men were trying to have their hands soft and elegant. This is why this type of manicure is called French manicure.

Later, in the twentieth century it was a sign of wealth and celebrity if a man had a nice manicure. They used clear polish over white tips. Not even the white tips had to be polished; most men used crayons to make the tips look whiter and stronger. Since then times have changed and mentalities as well. At some point in history it was considered to be inappropriate for a decent woman to have her nails polished. Nowadays even men can have red, blue, black or brown nail polish.

When it comes to nail polish in the case of men, most people think of punks and Goths, since it is very popular among the young men belonging to these groups to have their nails polished, usually using dark colors, but you would be amazed of how many other many, even older ones have nail polish, even if only clear.

If somebody hears about men’s French manicure, most of the times he or she think about gay people. It is true that it is quite popular among gay communities to have their nails polished. Nevertheless in these days it is, let’s say, old-fashioned to think that only gay people like having a French manicure. Although initially it was done for women, it is gaining more and more popularity among men as well.

Even though I not particularly a big fan of men’s French manicure, I do like to see that men are concerned by their looks and having nice nails makes a good impression. In this case nice meaning that the nails are clean, clipped and maybe polished, but only using clear polish. According to my opinion colors are too feminine for a man, but naturally this is only my opinion, everybody does as he likes.  Most of the nail salons offer manicures and pedicures as well, so if a man wishes to have his nails done, he should get them done, no matter what the others say.
