In our days it is a social convention that women should (if not must) wear makeup. It might sound easy: you apply a bit of this and a little of that and you’re done. I wish t was that simple. Whatever cosmetic we look at, there are thousands if not millions to choose of and it is a woman’s duty to find the right one, the one that looks better on her.

Choosing the right lipstick can be a very hard task, but there are some guidelines that help us make our decision. I think that it is very useful to read some articles that stylist have written, since they know what is trendy and ‘hot’ and they can tell you which color works the best for which type of women. Let’s take for example red lipstick.

In the past period it was considered to be very fashionable, but we must think about the fact that although many celebrities are wearing it on the red carpet, we are average people with everyday lives and we can’t wear the things they do because we might look a bit out of place. The celebrities have an army of stylists to tell them what works best for them, but we ear on our own when it comes to making decisions.

Professional stylists say that the first thing that we must consider before using red lipstick is our age. Because red lipsticks have a strong hue, it can make the face look harder, the lips thinner and the skin older. There are three age categories that we must consider. The younger ones will look like they have been playing with their mothers’ makeup kit if they put on red lipstick, so it is a big “DON’T” for them.

The next category is the bit older but not too old. I think that red lipstick was invented for this category. The older category while wearing red might look even older than they really are. According to stylists women over 30 should use shades that aren’t so aggressive. Regarding older women wearing red lipstick, they should choose softer shades of lipstick and brands that put a lot of accent on moisturizing and care.

The ideal lipstick for older women is light on color and rich in texture. When looking for a red lipstick you must also think about the shade, since not every shade works out and even the most gorgeous woman might look cheap if she doesn’t find the right shade.

In conclusion we can say that red lipstick is a good choice for young women, but not too young. Older women wearing red lipstick might look aged. Naturally this aspect can be equilibrated by the right makeup, but still there is no guarantee that the result will be as favorable as foreseen. There are some older women who still look very good while wearing red lipstick, but there are only a few who are this lucky. You must know that even if you like something, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it looks good on you.
