Peeling and breaking fingernails

Fingernails are as important as our hair. They therefore mean just as much to our beauty and to our protection. While the hair protects one in the case of problems, the fingernails protects the nail bed from getting infected. Apart from their protective role, they as well have the role of adding a plus to your beauty. They will somehow, enable one to change the personality and the mood accordingly.

Fingernails are more than just what we actually see that they are. What we see is the fingernail plate that is somehow responsible for adding that individuality point to our look. However, beneath this, there are more things that a fingernail is made out of, there is the fingernail matrix, the nail bed, the lunulae, the cuticles, the blood vessels that are strictly related to the fingernail matrix. Each one of these parts has its specific role and they will somehow prove to be indispensable for a healthy fingernail growth.

One will never be able of maintain the same fingernail look as they have when one is born and a little child. Just like the skin and other parts of your body grow, this thing happens with the fingernails as well. They develop and they suffer changes changes that most of the times are connected to the factors one comes into contact with.

There are two types of factors that we can distinguish from, there are the internal factors and then there are the external ones. Whichever situation that may happen to your fingernails is by no means unable to undo. Therefore, the peeling fingernails are one situation that you may be finding yourself in.

What are the causes that lead to peeling fingernails? There are the medical and then there are the non medical factors that lead to such fingernail situation. As far as the non medical causes, one can distinguish between the long exposure to chemicals and as well water. This will make the nail lose its natural oils and then have no protection whatsoever. During the winter time one must grant his fingernails a much more attention, as the cold weather may cause them to get dryer. The aging process is another thing that will cause the fingernails to peel off. This is due to the fact that along with the menopause, the body of a woman produces less moisture and the fingernails are more prone to splitting and peeling.

The medical causes of peeling fingernails lay first of all in the fungal infection. Whereas the fungal infections seen mostly in the toenails, as these are the first factors that are disposed to wet conditions and to dust etc, they can as well be commonly met in fingernails. A fungal infection consists in the keratin eroding by the fungus. This leads to fingernail splitting that will eventually cause fingernails to completely separate from the nail bed, if not taking proper measures. Psoriasis is yet another medical condition that leads to fingernail peeling. Though some may confound this with fungus infection, it is by no means like this. This is actually a disease that will cause dry red patches and can appear on scalps, ears, genitalia dn as well skin. One cannot do anything to treat this disease, unless one consults a dermatologist in this regard.

The easiest treatment for peeling fingernails is to try and pay attention to the calcium in your body, to have a proper diet that is full of C complex vitamins and as well vitamin C and Folic Acid, and eat aliments that contain Omega 3 fats. Apart from this one should as well cease using too many chemicals, cease using the nail polish remover that contains acetone, should try an moisturize the fingernails more and as well avoid over exposure to water and other detergents. If the causes are internally, one should solve this under a medical supervision.
