Red Fingernails
The history of nail painting has its roots back in China, in 3000 B.C., when royals painted their nails with a special substance made off beeswax, flower petals, silver and gold powder. In Egypt, to show their social status, men and women colored their nails: pale colors for the poor and darker for the rich.
More than 100 years ago, nail painting slowly became a trend. Before that women colored their nails with red oil or with gloss mixed with various powders and creams. Painting nails became famous first in France and around 1925 women used a kind of rosy read, painting only the center of the nail. Two years later appeared on the market a rose cream and a tube of white, which women applied under the tip of the nail. It was something like the French manicure of today. In 1930, Revlon company was founded, followed in short time by Max Factor. They were the pioneers in the nail polish field.

By 1940, long red fingernails became very popular, due to actress Rita Hayworth. Since then, red nails remained on top, either long or short. They are preferred mostly by women with strong personality.
Every woman can now paint her nails in any color at home. It is true that painting red fingernails it is a little more complicated, but if you follow the steps bellow you wouldn’t have any trouble:
You will need red and clear nail polish, a towel as well as paper towels, nail polish remover. Don’t be afraid to experiment different tones of red – form blood red polish to very dark one, to engine red, burgundy or even orange-red. Be aware that some colors look better on certain skin tones than others. Pale complexion looks good with orange based reds. Pink red, corals fits the Caucasian skin, while orange and purple tones look great with olive skin. Black complexion is looking great with burgundy and berry red.

Choose a well ventilated room to paint your nails because the fumes can affect your health.
Remove the old nail polish. If you don’t have any clear your nails with some nail polish remover, in order to degrease them. The color you will apply will stay longer and look smoother. Don’t shake the bottle, but roll it between your hands for half a minute. After you open it, scrape the nail excess form its sides.
Add a clear nail polish coat in order to protect the natural color of your nails. Let it dry, then began painting nails with red. Trace first a stripe in the middle of the nail, one to the left, then middle again and finally on the right. Dip the brush into the bottle before painting each nail. Let it dry completely, keep your hand steady and apply the last coat. It is advisable that you finish it with another coat of clear polish, in order to seal and protect color. Let the nails dry before you stat doing something.
