Most of the women from all over the world are using lipstick on a daily basis. It is inevitable to stain our clothes or the clothes of others with the lipstick we are wearing. Many tips can be found in books and on the internet regarding how to remove lipstick from clothes but most of them are simply urban legends.
What is the guarantee that they really will work and you won’t ruin your clothing while following the advices they give? The methods I am giving you have been used by many people I they really do work. It is possible that you may have heard about them, but you never had the courage to try them.

There are two basic things that we must remember when we are faced with such a situation: not to rub the stain, because all we achieve with it is to spread the stain; the second idea that we must take into consideration is that lipstick is oil based, so we must treat the stain with a substance that removes oily stains. Only solvent based removers can be helpful in the given situation; water based ones or wet spotters will only make the situation even worse, because they spread and set the stain.
There are some methods that work best with certain types of fabrics. For example in the case of silk or satin fabrics there is a trick that might work: slap a piece of transparent tape on the fabric and then rip it off. If there still is a stain, treat it with a bit of talcum powder. In the case of cotton fabrics it is said that nothing is more useful than petroleum jelly: rub petroleum jelly into the fabric and wash it as usual. Don't forget to wash it in cold water.
No matter what type of fabric you are dealing with, be sure to check the label of the clothing before you do anything. More special fabrics must be taken to a professional cleaner, but if the label does not specify this, you may try to treat the stain yourself. The first method that I would recommend is alcohol. You should take a clean, preferably white cloth and moisten it with alcohol. Then simply blot the lipstick stain, which will disappear.
Another good method is to use dishwashing detergent which is formulated to fight grease. In this case dab a little dishwashing detergent on the stain and let it set for a while. Then start working on the stain from the edges inward.

If none of these methods seem to be good enough for you, you can try using ammonia to remove lipstick from clothes. Almost everybody has ammonia at home for cleaning purposes, but if not, it can be found at almost any grocery store and it is very cheap. First you should start blotting of as much of the stain as possible, using plain water. Then, using a cotton swab moisturized with ammonia, dab the stain. Once the stain starts to disappear, wash the clothing in warm, soapy water by hand, preferably using dishwashing detergent.
