Although lipstick was designed to stay on the lips, it might always happen that it stains a piece of clothing and then we must do something about it really fast. You should not let the stain dry and set. There are some cynical people who say that the best way to treat a stain is to prevent it. This is fun and all, but would they know how to get the stain out or hey would throw the clothing away. I guess the second is the answer.

We might say that treating a lipstick stain is not that hard. This might be true but let’s not forget that there are many types of fabric and not all of them can be treated the same. Before we do anything there are some rules that we must keep in mind. The first is that when we notice the stain we should not rub it because all we will achieve is that the stain will spread. The next thing we must do is to check the label of the clothing. If the fabric is something special then we would better take the clothing to a professional cleaner. Another thing to remember is that lipstick is an oily substance so we must use products that were designed to fight grease.

One of those clothing that are hard to wash are the sweaters because most of them are made of wool and they are very delicate. The best method that I have found to remove lipstick from sweater is to treat the stain with benzene. All you have to do is to moisten a piece of clean, preferably white cloth it benzene and dab the stain. This way you will remove the greasiness. Then using another piece of cloth you should rub the stain gently with alcohol. Using this method you are supposed to have gotten rid of the stain. You might know that using ammonia is a great way to remove lipstick stains but it is important not to use it in case of wool or silk! After you are done with the stain you should wash the sweater. First you should draw the outline of the sweater on a piece of paper, then hand-wash it gently in cool water using detergent especially made for wool. Be careful not to rub the product into the fabric. Then rinse the sweater with fresh water until there will be no trace of the detergent. Gently squeeze the excess water and roll the sweater in a towel for the towel to absorb the water. Then lay the sweater on the paper you used before and stretch it to fit the outline you have drawn before.  You should dry the sweater on a hammock if you have the possibility and try to avoid direct sunlight.

I hope that by reading my article you have learned to remove lipstick from sweater and you have found some information that you will be able to use in the future if needed.
