The sitz bath is a bath with warm water that covers the buttocks and hips. However, there are some steps you need to follow to have a sitz bath properly done. The first thing you will need is a bathtub, shallow bucket or a sitz bath. A plastic sitz bath can be found in drugstores and you have to place the device over the toilet. Make sure that the product you have bought has got a system to place continuous warm water in, and so make sure that the water will keep being warm. The water forming the bath sitz will go into the toilet. These products are not very expensive and if they are good your bath will be very easy and useful also.
However, the sitz bath does not necessary have to be made with warm water, the water can also be cold, if this kind of treatment is the most appropriate one for you condition. Also altering cold and warm water can be another way to have sitz baths. Anyway, you have to stay in the water for at least 20 to 30 minutes and this process has to be made more than one time a week for it to have an effect. After you have had your bath, use a cotton towel. The area must be patted and not rubbed. You can also let it dry by itself in the air, but you do not have to feel cold at any time. Some bath salts can be added in the water, but before doing so discuss with your doctors. Some bath salts can be benefic, while others can harm you. Bath salts are most recommended for vaginal or perineal discomforts many times created after childbirths. In these cases vinegar can also work.
So, a sitz bath is adapted to your condition and your needs. If you want to increase the effects of you bath, you can add bath salts or use cold water, but only after you have talked with your doctor. If you do not have right baths, you can easily get colds. However, in general, a sitz bath is a warm bath made with just enough water, used for healing and cleansing purposes, which can be different in different persons. In this type of bath, you have to sit in the bath with water that only covers your hips and buttocks. The water can contain bath salts or other medications recommended by specialized doctors.
