Symptoms of Fingernail Fungus

Fingernails Fungus is an infection of the nail bed, where the nail meets the skin. The fungus enters the skin through some sort of wound, cut, or scratch. Fungal infections are also known as onychomycosis, represent approximately 50 per cent of all nail disorders and since the infection occurs under the nail plate or in the nail bed, it can be very difficult to treat. Fungal infections often cause that the end of the nail separates from the nail bed, the skin on which the nail rests. Fungus which can be yellow, white, green or black can appear under the nail plate and discolor the nail bed. Toenails are more susceptible to fungal infections because they stay in a warm, moist, weight-bearing environment. Candida or yeast infections are mostly common in fingernails because the hands are always in water, mostly if your profession is fisherman, dishwasher or any work which requires excessive water and soap.
