It is possible that you have not heard about Tangee lipstick and to be totally honest, I haven’t heard about it either up to now. This isn’t something surprising because these lipsticks were fashionable and popular way before my time. I have found advertisements back form 1954 that were promoting this type of lipstick.
The thing that makes this lipstick so unique is that it is said to change its color depending on the skin tone of the person who is wearing it. The manufacturer’s promotional text says that it brings out the natural beauty. It is a proven fact that the first layer that is applied is barely visible and if you apply more layers it gradually transforms into the final color.

The advantage of such lipsticks is that they give a natural color, so you will look nice without looking artificial. Some say that this lipstick has been around for over 70 years and those who had the possibility to try it claim that it moisturizes the lips and it looks like it has been freshly applied for hours. It is said to have natural moisturizers that prevent your lips from chapping and drying. The manufacturer says that the lipstick now is with SPF 15 to protect the lips from the harmful effects of the sun-rays.
While some people say that it changes its color according to the skin tone, others say that the color is affected by the temperature of the skin and this is why it seems like it has different colors on different people. Most people like these lipsticks and remember them with nostalgia but there are some downsides as well. Those who tried it say that it couldn’t be washed off so they had to wait until it wore off.
A few decades ago especially the parents liked the Tangee lipstick because the first layer was so transparent, but the young girls found out fast that they can apply more layers to get a more, let’s say ‘aggressive’ color that is easier for others to notice and the second they got out of the house they applied several other layers. I think I can say that this lipstick satisfied both the parents and the children. I have heard stories saying that somebody got a Tangee lipstick from her grandmother, so I think that it must have been really popular among the older generations.

You might think that you can’t find these lipstick I stores anymore. Well, you are not far from the truth. Still I have found one place that still has it from time to time: the Vermont Country Store. If you would like one you should try to visit the store’s webpage and if you happen to find it on stock be sure to buy one the fast as you can, while they still have it. I think that you could surprise somebody with it who had prior experience with it, or you could get it for yourself for the old days’ sake.
