Fingernails grow at an average rate of 3 millimeters a month and are made of a tough protein called “keratin”. They require 3 to 6 months to grow again completely because the actual growth rate depends upon age, gender, season, diet or even hereditary factors.
But there are several factors that Cause Fingernail Problems because nails can dry out just like the skin. Fingernails can also break, peel or be infected.





The Causes of Fingernail Problems can be multiple. Firstly, nail tools which can transmit infections and can spread nail fungi, staph bacteria or even viruses. Secondly the fingernails problems may occur because of one or more diseases, being said that fingernails are the mirror of ones health. For example the yellow nail syndrome where nails grow slower may result from a chronic bronchitis; or nail pitting which is common at people with psoriasis, with chronic dermatitis; spoon nails, the nails scooped out mostly because of iron deficiency anemia; Terry’s nails which are opaque nails with a dark band caused by aging or more seriously, a sign of diabetic or congestive heart failure and even nails separated from the nail bed which can be caused by thyroid disease or can be a drug reaction.
To avoid some of the diseases caused by the tools used in manicure one can use gels or cream cuticle removers instead of cuticle scissors in order to stop the viruses and the infections

Fingernail problems can be the cause of a bad nutrition, calcium being very important for healthy nails. Calcium can be found in green vegetables, dairy products, and sesame products or even in daily supplements. Vitamins are also vital for healthy fingernails. One of the vitamins needed is vitamin B which strengthens the nails and vitamin B12 which ensures nail growth and a healthy coloring while vitamin C helps prevent hang nails and swelling of nail tissue.

Another way to assure healthy nails is to eat a well balanced diet with plenty of protein as well as fresh fruits and vegetables along with consuming minimum 2 litters of water daily. And for a better effect cuticles must be removed once a month so that fingernails will be prettier and healthier.
