What Causes Ridged Fingernails
Ridged fingernails are bad looking fingernails. Whether you want to be considered a beautiful woman, that takes proper care of her fingernails and of her entire body, one should at least have a good looking manicure, if not fully polished fingernails.
What causes ridged fingernails? Ridged fingernails have various causes, they range from internal causes to external causes; from medical causes to non medical causes and as well from causes that one can prevent and from causes that one cannot get a hold of.
Ridged fingernails are of two types, there are the ridged fingernails that have ridges from the bottom of your fingernail all the way to the top and then there are those ridged fingernails, which are all the way across the finger. While the first ones are vertical, the second ones are horizontal.
The causes that stay at the appearance of vertical ridges in fingernail may differ. The most common cause is the aging process, which is what each of us suffers from. Just like in the case of the hair or of the skin, in appearing of the aging process. One will have direct consequences of the aging process all other the body.

Another thing what causes ridged fingernails as far as the vertical fingernail ridges concern, there are mainly external causes like chemical products, which lead to the dryness of the nail. This thing can be prevented by using less chemical products, like cleaning products, gardening products and even nail polish. Anyhow, if you have no choice but to use them, you may as well wear some protective gloves or using less nail polish.
Another cause may be the too much moisture that your fingernails may suffer, so one may take care of not allowing ones fingernails get too wet. And if one works on such an environment, one can protect the hands with some gloves as well. Rather than being very serious, vertical ridges on fingernails are not a cause of concern.

What does have to concern you are the horizontal fingernail ridges. They are caused by very important health factors which none can think of. They even can let one know what one may be suffering from. Any internal disease has an outside burst. Therefore, ones horizontal fingernail appearance can be caused by some circulatory or respiratory problems, by some liver disease, kidney disease, by a illness called melanoma, as a result of the chemotherapy and as well they can appear as a heart disease.
While the vertical ridges on the fingernail can be treated externally, the horizontal ones are treated just by treating the illness one may suffer from. As the nail grows, when the disease no longer exists so does the fingernail ridge, but in the case of vertical fingernail ridges, they may never disappear for good, but just fade away.
