I believe that since lipstick has been around women have always been concerned about choosing the best shade. Some say that you simply can’t know whether a shade look good on you until you will actually try it. The truth is that there are some indicators that suggest what shade you should be thinking about. I am sure that at one point you asked yourself: ‘What lipstick color is right for me?’

Professionals say that the best shades are the ones that are one or two shade darker or lighter than your natural lip color. To test it you should apply the lipstick on one lip and then compare it with the color of the other lip. If the difference is only one or two shade than you have found the right one.

It is the best to begin with looking at the color of your lips without any lipstick on it and decide what color it has. Are they light or dark pink, red, beige or brown? This will indicate the direction of the choice you will have to make. For example if your lips have a reddish color, then you should choose a lipstick that is darker or lighter.

The next thing you should take into consideration is the color of your skin. If it is very light then you should choose light colors, pale to medium. If the contrast between the skin and the lips is too big than nobody will observe the other features you have, just your lips. Those who have darker skin tones shouldn’t use these light colors, because they make their lips disappear.

If you are so lucky to have natural color in your skin, than you can also use bright colors. The point is to avoid using a color that brings out too much the lips or makes it disappear. If we are talking about dark skin tone than it is better to use brown, purple, deep red and crimson colors. Medium skin tones require rose shades, berry shades and mauve shades. In this case red isn’t very advantageous but they look very good with burgundy.

The hair should be taken into consideration as well. If you have a light hair color and your skin is pale than the best color to wear is frosty pink or rose. In the case of black hair and dark skin you could wear a red color that hasn’t any blue traces, wines and deep pink colors. African Americans can wear reds that have a blue ton, plums, and oranges. Those with olive skin and dark hair could wear beige, plums and orange-reds.

Many women forget, but teeth are important as well. If they have a yellowish color then it is best to avoid oranges that accentuate the yellow color. Instead you should wear pink, plum and wine colors. In any other case you can wear anything that looks good with your skin and hair. I hope that now you know the answer to the question ‘What lipstick color is right for me?’
