Since lipstick has been around (and let’s face it, it has been a long period of time) there was always the possibility that clothes will get stained with lipstick. We all know that accidents can happen, and we can stain our own clothes or the clothes of others.

Ironic people may say that the easiest way to get rid of a stain is to prevent it. Well, if you have no way to prevent it then the best option is to treat it. Remember that it is best to act while the stain is still fresh, so if you go home from a party where your clothing got stained don’t throw it into the closet, because it is very likely that the next time when you will remember about the stain will be when you wish to wear the same clothing next time.

There are some aspects that we need to be careful about. It is very important not to rub the stain, because all you will achieve is that it will only spread and it will be harder to remove. The second thing is that before we do anything, we should check the label of the clothing. If it is made of a more special material then we would better take it to a professional cleaner where they know how to clean it. It is very possible that we could ruin it if we use the methods that I will suggest.

Another important thing that we have to remember when thinking about what takes lipstick out of clothes is that lipstick is oily based, so we must think about substances that dissolve and so remove oily stains. Only solvent based substances can help us because the water based ones and wet spotters will only spread and set the stain.

There are several substances that take lipstick out of clothes. You might have heard that alcohol can be of great help in such situations. All you have to do is to take a clean and preferably white piece of cloth and moisten it with alcohol then blot the lipstick stain which probably will disappear.

For sure you know that dish-washing detergent was created to fight grease, and so, oil too. It is another great method to treat a stain. In this case you should dab a little dishwashing detergent on the stain and let it set for a few minutes. After this, start working on the stain form the edges inward.

The last method that I suggest involves using ammonia. I know that it sound a little weird, but ammonia is used for cleaning purposes and it can be found in most households. If you don’t have any at home, you can buy ammonia at almost any shop and it is quite cheap. If you decide to use this method then you should try to blot of as much of the stain as possible. Then moisten a cotton swab with ammonia and dab the stain. As soon as the stain starts to disappear, wash the clothing in warm water, preferably using dish-washing detergent.
