What to know about Burmese red lipstick barb

In case you know anything at all about fishes, then I am sure you know that the Burmese red lipstick barbs are a fish. You might have observed that there are a lot of things that get their names after the lipstick, because they resemble with it in some way.

The natural habitat of the fish is still not quite clear since there is very little information regarding where they can be naturally found and it is quite difficult to know about the bottom of the lake that they might be found in. The lake that it can be found in is quite deep and so it is just natural that the fish can be found in shallow places at the margins.

The lake is surrounded by trees and mountains and around the lake the vegetation is made of grass like vegetation, woodland and some rocks. There can also be algae found near the lake.  On the bottom of the lake there is clay like soil that is soft and rich and that is mixed with decomposing vegetation.

The maximum length of the fish is usually about 4 cm, so we can say that it is rather small fish. If you would like to keep the fish in a tank then it might be a very good idea to keep it in a densely-planted environment, unless you would like to have the species in large numbers.

It is important to provide plenty of broken lines of sight.  In case of sparse places the fights between rival males might occur more frequent than in other cases. It also might be a good idea to create a colorful surrounding because this way the males won’t see each other so well and to the confrontations will be reduced.

The temperature is also very important for the fish and they seem to be the happiest if the temperature is about 22-24 ̊C.

The Burmese red lipstick barbs is just like any other barb and this is why they are omnivorous too. In their natural habitat they feed with invertebrates, algae, diatoms and other organic debris.

If they are kept in a tank they eat almost anything you give them. To keep them in the best shape you should feed them regularly and you should give them small and frozen food like bloodworm, as well as dried flakes and granules.

You should know that in the case of this species the male is the more attractive sex because they have a bigger degree of pigmentation at their mouth and they also have a thin scarlet line that extends up to their dorsal fin in case of the dominant individuals. When they are in spawning the body of the male becomes dark ink blue but the female will have their normal color. Just as in case of the other barbs, the sexually mature females usually are plumper than the males.

I think now you know a lot more about the fish called Burmese red lipstick barbs.
