Zipped Lips
On a quite normal looking day you may find yourself in some slightly unpleasant situations. Not unpleasant enough to push you over the edge, but certainly able to ruin your absolutely smooth, normal day.
Have you ever noticed that people can be really mean when put in situations they feel uncomfortable with or when they simply disapprove of certain matters? I mean bad in every way. Just to get to you. We have the ability to use so many psychological ” weapons” to get to someone. And this is the worse part because by using violence everything is put out in the open and all that anger can be released. But try hurting someone just by using your words. Yeah, I know, it stings pretty bad. Better yet, the way to play with someone’s subconscious is by using certain subtle body gestures that their brain will pick up as being offensive and agitate the other person more than by using any other method. The most subtle example that I can think about right now is the body gesture that we all know as the “zipped lips“. Personally, there isn’t any other gesture that gets me more angry and upset all day long when someone directs it towards me. The zipped lips actually have 2 meanings so be careful not to confuse them and somewhat end up ruining your entire day by mistake. The first meaning which is a more passive one is about shutting up, not wanting to reveal any information to someone or just not wanting to speak at all. When someone tells you to “zip the lip” it simply means ” please shut up just this once, I don’t want this subject to be discussed right now/for new/this time/ever”.

The other meaning of zipped lips is seeing someone actually bringing their lips together so tight and rigid that they end up forming a perfect line. That is almost always a sign of disapproval regarding what you just said, or a sign of contempt, this meaning that the other person clearly thinks he or she is by far superior and shouldn’t even be in the same room with you. The reason why this gesture and also symbol has such a powerful impact on our mentality is the fact that body mimics is the first thing we learn to interpret when growing up and thus has the biggest impact on all of us. That and the fact that the face can’t lie. It is well known that even if you train yourself to lie perfectly, as many charlatans do, there are always some split seconds in which the face mimics will reflect the true feeling of the person and those are the ones detectable by the human eye, even with all the fakery put into scene.

So the next time someone gives you the “bad” zipped lips, just turn away for a few seconds, inhale and exhale once and then turn around giving them… the fake smile. Fake smile beats zipped lips
